Fire Control Tower

tower-dune-sunrise-hdr-28163-crop

Dawn was spectacular yesterday over the Atlantic Ocean. These towers were built on the Delaware coast during World War II to watch for Nazi U-boat activity near the Delaware Bay entrance. They are still standing tall more than six decades later.

    Hi Andrew,

There is a sunken U-boat just off the coast in Ocean City, Maryland a few miles south of here. But to my knowledge these towers never directed any fire at Nazi submarines.

One U-boat did surrender here at the end of the war!

    Kevin
