a snowy egret who fishes like a tern…

After more than a week of cloudy, rainy weather the sun finally rose over the Delmarva Peninsula today. And I was lucky enough to get right in the middle of dozens of Snowy Egrets fishing in a creek. These quirky little egrets are among my favorites to photograph because they are always dashing, darting and flapping around in unpredictable ways and directions. Sometimes you can catch moments like this snowy who suddenly started fishing like a tern. Snowy Egrets are wading birds and they catch fish by wiggling their yellow toes to attract their prey. This one jumped into the air and picked a fish out of the creek more like a tern would do.

What a great “catch”…for you as the photographer and also for the egret!
