Flight Feathers

Bald-Eagle-12780-crop

Yesterday I counted 40 Bald Eagles soaring above me near the Conowingo dam on the Susquehanna River. They gather there every fall to feast on the fish there just below the dam. The official count has more than 200 eagles now at the dam.

Black-crowned Night Heron

Black-crowned-Night-Heron-landing-10868

These handsome wading birds are among my favorite to photograph. They tend to be rather shy so getting close to them can be difficult. And they like to feed at dusk and during the night which makes them even more of a challenge to photograph.

Royal Tern Colony

Royal-Tern-landing-with-fish-11729

If you live on Delmarva you probably know this wasn’t taken recently. Couldn’t have been because the sun is actually shining. This is a Royal Tern bringing in a fish to feed its chick last summer in Maryland. I hope to have some new photographs this week as the sun has finally appeared.

Great Blue Herons

IR-rookery-heron-chicks-12479

The weather continues to be dark and stormy here on Delmarva and the light is miserable for wildlife photography. So I found this Great Blue Heron photograph from this summer. These are young herons looking for a fish from the parent.
