Pebble Beach

rocky-beach-sunrise-27415

Sunrise again today wasn’t good for wildlife but it was beautiful at dawn before the sun actually rose and disappeared into the clouds. Recent storms washed stones and shells onto the beach at Herring Point making a great natural texture. A lone Herring Gull and I were there to witness the sunrise.

The Snow Geese Are Back!

first-snow-goose-landing-19806

Two weeks ago I saw just a pair of Snow Geese, early autumn arrivals along the Delaware Bay. Last week I saw the first small flock and today the Snow Geese are back in much larger numbers. Soon they will be on the Delmarva Peninsula by the tens of thousands spending the winter in our wetlands.

Snowy Egret

I just returned to Turkey from a week long sailing trip to southern Turkey and Greece and have internet access again, photographs from this trip will be posted on my website when I return mid October. Here are a few images from this summer of different scenes from Delmarva rookeries.

The Guiding Light

Harbor-of-Refuge-lighthouse-19444

A beacon to mariners since 1926, the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse is the third light built on the Delaware Breakwater near Lewes. Heavy overcast skies made it clear this would be another dark day for wildlife photography. But just before sunrise there was a touch of color in the sky.

One Last Look At Summer…

herring-point-jetty-surreal-27176-alt-14x20

The dark overcast sky made it clear that today would not be a good day to photograph wildlife. So I headed for the old naval jetty in Cape Henlopen State Park with hopes of catching some light. A narrow ribbon of clear sky far in the distance made a small window just at sunrise. A minute later the last summer sunrise of 2009 slipped behind the clouds.

Wild Winterthur

deer-buck-in-grass-19316

Winterthur Museum is internationally know for their collection of period American furniture and decorative art. But the 1,000 acre country estate is also home to an amazing variety of wildlife. I found this eight point White-tailed deer buck last night near sunset standing in the wilds of Winterthur.
