In March and April Gray seals can often be found along the Delaware coast near Cape Henlopen. With a range from Labrador in the north to New England Gray seals are occasionally seen as far south as Virginia. This one – probably a male – came ashore at the north end of Rehoboth Beach yesterday. Gray seals feed on a variety of fish and crustaceans and have been known to catch and eat seabirds.

A Great Blue Heron takes wing over a Delaware salt marsh. These are among the largest herons in the world and are common on the peninsula anywhere the fishing is good. From backyard ponds to the bays and rivers Great Blue Heron feed on everything from shrimp to minnows to frogs and snakes.
